PROG POWER UK III press release
-
In a press release from the organisers of 'Prog Power UK III', which was scheduled to be held in Bristol over the weekend of 28th/29th March, it has emerged that this year's edition of the festival has been cancelled. The full press release reads as follows:
This is the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but it is with great regret that we have had to cancel ProgPower UK III. We have made no secret of the financial difficulties that have dogged our first two years, which is why we made a significant number of changes for year three. However, ticket sales have been extremely poor and, as a result, there is no way we can stage the festival without losing a substantial amount of money – again.
This decision has not been taken lightly and we are fully aware of both the disappointment and inconvenience it will cause. However, we simply cannot afford to keep pumping money into ProgPower UK and we can assure you that we are as disappointed about this as you no doubt are. As a result of this, ProgPower UK LLP will cease trading with immediate effect.
Ticket holders who purchased tickets via cheque or Paypal through the ProgPowerUK website will be refunded by the method through which the tickets were purchased. This will be done within twenty-eight days. If you purchased tickets at Bristol Ticket Shop, please contact them directly for a refund. Please direct any enquiris to enquiries@progpoweruk.com All enquiries will be dealt with, but please be patient.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us over the past three years, and also thank Rene Janssen and his team giving us the opportunity to make ProgPower UK a reality.
The ProgPower UK Team

LANDMARQ newsletter
-
This is the first newsletter from "LANDMARQ" in a while and we would like to apologise for this lack of communication. This has been for good reason, although the reason is not good!
In 2006, Landmarq's singer Tracy Hitchings revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast and ovarian Cancer and would be undergoing various treatments, more of which Tracy will be writing about at a later date.
While the band have had to contend with many and varied delays with the production of their long-awaited new album, many beyond the bands control, this was one setback that the band, and especially of course Tracy herself, was not expecting or prepared for.
Tracy herself has undergone a very strict holistic treatment regime and, with determination and a positive attitude, she has reduced the toxins in her body down to zero. She is not, by any means, out of the woods as yet, but Tracy has said she is feeling a lot better in herself than previously and wants to resume and continue with production of the new Landmarq album as soon as possible. The band are now getting back on track and hope to return to the studio as soon as possible to continue with the new album.
Naturally, health must come first and we know our friends and fans will understand why Tracy and Landmarq have not been as productive as they would normally like to be. Tracy would also like to thank the people who were privvy to her situation for their help, support and good wishes.
Cheers for now, L A N D M A R Q

SLAYER's Biography
-
The world's first biography of American thrash metal titans SLAYER is due for publication this spring. The Bloody Reign Of Slayer is written by Joel McIver, the author of the bestselling 2004 biography Justice For All: The Truth About METALLICA and the recent BLACK SABBATH book Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (hailed by the Telegraph as "excellent" and the Sun as "brilliant").
As the author says: "An all-encompassing biography of SLAYER is long overdue. With their profile at an all-time high thanks to their recent Grammy win and a run of critically-acclaimed DVDs and albums, there's never been a better time to tell their shocking story in full detail."
The author, who has interviewed members of SLAYER on several occasions in recent years as well as dozens of musicians and industry personnel crucial to the band's career, added: "Whether you're a fan of the classic early SLAYER albums or their later, equally vicious material, this book is for you. I've unearthed a ton of previously-unheard stories from people close to the band and examined phenomena such as the enduring legend of Reign In Blood in enormous detail. You won't be disappointed."
The book, McIver's eleventh, will be released globally in hardback and softback with an extensive picture section, and is available for pre-order at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. The publisher is Omnibus Press, the world's leader in the field of rock biography.

UK Composer Marvin Ayres Releases New CD Eccentric Deliquescence
2/15/08 - London, UK - Marvin Ayres is a composer, cellist, pianist and violinist. He has recorded a diverse selection of ambient and 'string design' albums, as well as produced and composed a number of sensual jazz and film soundtracks that combine classical technique with free-form extemporization. Straddling the worlds of commercial and classical music, as composer/producer Marvin Ayres has developed a distinctive and innovative style by subjecting his instruments to electronic treatments, thereby pioneering an approach described as "Ambient Orchestral Minimalism".
Operating somewhere between the spiritual serenity of Gorecki and Part and the electronic adventures of Brian Eno and Aphex Twin, his key features are layers of organic strings filtered through atmospheric distortions and effects, sounding at once both familiar and utterly new.
"...like some of (Brian) Eno's best work, the atmospheres Ayres creates can comfortably blend into the sonic backdrop, they are also compelling pieces of music that can dominate and transport."
All About Jazz A founding member of The Government, Ayres also made solo contributions to bands and artists throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, notably, Culture Club, Simply Red and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. In 1999 he was signed to the avant-garde label Mille Plateaux as composer/producer and released two ambient albums, Neptune and Cellosphere, to critical acclaim. Excerpts of these works have been performed live in an array of forums such as: London's 'Festival of Electronica'(with Groove Armada's Patrick Dawes), and the inter-media cutting edge event 'Sprawl'. His reputation as producer and performer came to the attention of Jaki Liebezeit (formerly of Can), who invited him to re-mix tracks and tour with Liebezeit's band Club Off Chaos in early 2001. Ayres was commissioned by Einsturzende Neubauten's electronica music publishers Freibank, and his compositions have featured on five 'For Films' albums.
In addition to his work with musicians, Ayres also collaborates with visual artists on audio-visual installations, which have been exhibited in major galleries and art houses in Europe and the U.S. In 2000, the prestigious ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) in London commissioned him to compose and produce their first ever DVD exhibition. The two works resulting from this were 'Sensory' and 'Cycle', incorporating spatial soundscapes and psycho acoustics and were composed specifically for 5.1 Surround Sound. Marvin Ayres' collaborative film 'Scape' is to this day a permanent fixture on exhibition at The Tate Modern.
His ongoing project with Sonja Kristina (from rock legends Curved Air) is called Mask and their 2006 hit single 'Waking The Dream' came from their debut dual-disc album 'Heavy Petal'. The new album, 'Technopia' will be released this autumn on Maroonbox, an exciting new digital platform and traditional record company.
